The lighthouse rises well above the roofs and foreshore trees in the old photographs of McCrae. At street level, the Lighthouse Store faced the traffic on Nepean Highway. Away from the shops, a 1939 photograph shows McCrae Homestead behind its fence, set back from the road beneath the trees.
